At Sevenoaks Primary School, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils. Supporting and promoting wellbeing, building resilience and good mental health will improve outcomes for our children. With such a huge amount of time spent in the classroom, schools provide an ideal environment for promoting good emotional wellbeing and identifying early behaviour changes and signs of mental distress. We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. The social and emotional skills, knowledge and behaviours that young people learn in the classroom can help them to build resilience and set the pattern for how they will manage their mental health throughout their lives.

We have a student Wellbeing Ambassador in every class (to find out more please see our Student Wellbeing Ambassadors page), include Wellbeing in our school-wide PSHE curriculum and in addition offer a number of targeted interventions throughout the school such as Relax kids or Zones of Regulation.

A Summer of Wellbeing 2021

This summer, we would love you to take part in some of the following wellbeing challenges! Thrive's 6 weeks of summer 
This summer you can challenge the children to look after their wellbeing over the holidays with Thrive's 6 weeks of summer!  
They can choose one, two or three activities to complete each week and tick them off as they go. Each week has a different theme, including nature, mindfulness, art and kindness. 


Summer of Play 
Play is important: it nurtures mental wellbeing, builds physical health, facilitates interactions and improves social skills. Play is learning, at every age. 
Tapestry and Learning with Parents have collaborated to create some resources for parents and carers. They follow 5 broad themes: Creativity, Physicality, Story, Number, and Experiment. For each theme there is a collection of accessible activities, accompanied by a supporting resource with ideas for children from Early Years to Year 6, including children with learning differences. 
Play doesn’t need lots of resources, and it doesn’t need to take lots of time., so this summer, let’s reclaim playfulness.

Colorfy is a lovely colouring mindfulness app that first started off in print version. Based in science of creativity and how colouring can create a feeling of flow that is associated with a meditative state. It is beautiful, and just looking at the lovely colours made me feel happy.
