SPS Clubs & Activities
CLUB INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND CARERS
The extra-curricular activities are one of the outstanding features of the school. This year we have over 50 clubs on offer to the children covering a range of diverse interests. The majority of leaders are staff at the school who give up their free time to run the activities. We have tried to ensure that there are opportunities for all the Year groups and there is no excuse for the children not getting involved.
It is a logistical challenge establishing the club timetable and there is on going organisation and management required to ensure they run smoothly. This has to be managed by the staff on top of their regular commitments. We will endeavour to ensure the efficient running of the activities but do ask for your understanding especially in the winter months if clubs need to be cancelled.
Some of the clubs are extremely popular and may be over oversubscribed. We do try and accommodate as many children as possible and this might mean that your child is allocated a particular term to attend rather than the whole year.
Unfortunately due to the numbers involved, it might also mean that a space is not available for this year. We would therefore suggest that parents/carers look through the activities with their child and select a number of clubs to avoid disappointment.
Ticking the request box does not guarantee a place.
The form will be returned to you from school and we will indicate which clubs your child has been accepted into.
Responsibility for attending the clubs
The children should take responsibility for turning up on time for their clubs. Obviously in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 the children might require reminders and support preparing and turning up at the right time/place. This will be provided by the teachers/TAs during the day but for after school clubs, it is the responsibility of the parent/carer to carry out this role.
Key Stage 2
It is the responsibility of the children to attend the clubs. With the number of children and activities available, the staff cannot take responsibility for ensuring the children turn up at the activities.
If a child decides they no longer want to participate in a club, they should inform the club leader.
SPS staff run clubs in their own time. They are not paid for the activities and do it for ‘love’. It is a ‘privilege’ for the children to attend and if their behaviour inside or outside the club is unsatisfactory, the privilege will be withdrawn.
Children should be collected at the end of after school clubs by their Parent / Carer or nominated Adult (please see individual club sign up sheets). It is the parents/carers responsibility to decide if their year 5 or 6 child is mature or sensible enough to walk home.
If your child wishes to participate in the extra-curricular activities, the sign up / permission slip MUST be completed before they commence.
Please complete one form per child.
If an after school club is cancelled, we will endeavour to contact parents/carers, or leave a message. We will endeavour to leave a message on the school website and answer machine. Please do check if you are in any doubt.
