Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back!

It was wonderful to see everyone on Monday, ready to start our new term together. We have so many exciting things to look forward to! I met with my new strategy team before the half-term break, to decide upon the priorities for our school, ready for the term ahead. This forms the basis of our school improvement model which drives towards the whole school vision.

As you know, this term, we will focus on the value of KINDNESS. The children shared some fantastic examples of kindness in our whole school assembly this week. When we selected this value for our school, one child told me, “Being kind makes you feel good, too.” This is a quote that I will always remember, as it is our kindness towards one another that defines who we are.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.

Best wishes,
Mrs Malone
Head Teacher

Considerate Driving and Parking Around School

We have been informed of an incident this morning where a parent from SPS attempted a 3-point turn on a local resident’s driveway. The resident’s young children were on the driveway at the time and it was fortunate that an accident was avoided on this occasion.

Please may we ask parents and carers to be considerate of our neighbours when using the roads around school, in order to keep everyone safe.
Thank you.

Flu Vaccinations

Children who had parental consent for the nasal flu programme received their vaccinations today. Children were given an ink stamp to identify this and they were also given a leaflet containing information regarding the vaccination.

If you gave consent but your child was absent from school today, or if you missed the deadline for consent and would like your child vaccinated, please contact the Immunisation Service on 0300 123 5205.

Please note, the school does not have a list of the children who received vaccinations as the administration has been arranged by the Immunisation Service.

Staff Update

After an amazing 20 years, Mrs Alexander is leaving SPS. Many parents/carers will know Mrs Alexander, not only as an experienced Year 6 Teacher, but also as a talented dance teacher. So many memories! We know you will all join us in wishing Mrs Alexander the very best of luck in her new role at The Granville School.

We are extremely pleased that Mr Paul Jenkins will be joining us to teach 6A, from January. There will be an opportunity for parents and carers in 6A to meet Mr Jenkins on Wednesday 4th December, from 9.00am to 9.30am.

Parents and carers of 1A have already met Mr Phil Ingham, who is covering Miss Hawes’ maternity leave. We are delighted to have Mr Ingham at SPS and know that 1A are enjoying his teaching.

A warm welcome also to Mr Charlie Cattell and Mrs Kelly Johnson who have joined us as Midday Supervisors.

Remembrance Day 2019

Poppies will be on sale in school for pupils, between Monday 4th November and Friday 8th November, as part of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.  We request a minimum donation of 20p per child.  The Poppies have a sticker backing (no pins) and are on sale during the school day.

If you have any queries, please contact the School Office.  Thank you for your support.

Tag Rugby Tournament: Pupil Report

On Thursday 10th October, the school took part in a Tag Rugby Tournament at Sevenoaks Rugby Club.

It was extremely exciting - we did very well! We played four matches and won three of them, the only team we lost against was Weald Primary School. Our best score was against Edenbridge, where we won 7-1. In that game, there were many magnificent try scorers who won the game with other people’s help. Our team consisted of eight people who made the tournament fun. To all the people who made it happen, we give many thanks.

Also, to anyone who wants to give rugby a shot, just go ahead and go for it and we are sure you will have a blast.

Spring Bulbs – Calling all ‘bud-ding’ gardeners!

Thank you to everyone who has kindly donated spring bulbs for the beds in front of the main building. It is now the perfect time to plant our bulbs and we would be grateful for help with getting them in the ground!

If you can help, please bring a trowel, if you have one (or anything suitable to make a small hole in the ground!) Any time during the school day is fine, or if your children would also like to get their hands dirty, straight after school is great!

If anyone has spare trowels at home, which they are happy to loan to the school, please bring them to the School Office.

Thank you for helping to make our grounds look amazing in the spring!

Harvest Festival Donations

Following the fantastic response from SPS families during our Harvest Festival, we have received the following message from the Sevenoaks Food Bank:

‘Thank you to the pupils and staff at Sevenoaks Primary School for your generous donation to our food bank, from your Harvest Festival collection.

We continue to support local families, in the Sevenoaks area, who are struggling to make ends meet, and rely on the ongoing generosity of our regular donors, throughout the year, to maintain our supplies.

With sincere thanks and appreciation.’

Sevenoaks Food Bank

This is testament to the KINDNESS shown by our SPS community – thank you for your generosity!
