Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed your half term break and are ready for the excitement that Term 6 has in store? Every term is action packed but the summer is especially so. Next week, we have the Key Stage 2 Sports Morning and the Years 5 and 6 Sleepover to kick off the events.

Without being the least bit negative, I am acutely aware that each event will be my last at SPS. I have warned the Year 6 children that it will be over in the blink of an eye and that it is important to enjoy every moment and I intend to do the same!

Building Work

The building work continues at a pace and the completion date is still anticipated to be the end of July/mid-August.  B&K are currently completing the ramped pathways located close to Pre-school and Acorns.  This has necessitated a temporary change in movement around the site and I am genuinely grateful for your understanding during this period.

We can see a light at the end of the tunnel and we are looking forward to enjoying the additional space created as a result of the demolition and landscaping of the site.

School Kit Amnesty
Children representing our school love to wear the school kit!
However, we are missing a huge amount of school tops, shorts, etc. and could we, therefore, please ask for any school kit to be returned to school as soon as possible.
There will be a labelled box in main reception for collection.
On behalf of the children - thank you!

Important Attendance Information

We have become aware of an increase in the number of children leaving early before the end of term, which is disruptive for both class teachers and pupils alike.

May we remind parents that Term 6 finishes at 3.20pm (3.15pm for Foundation Stage) on Tuesday 24th July 2018 and the academic year 2018/19 begins at Sevenoaks Primary School on Tuesday 4th September 2018.

Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Lost Property
A huge thank you to Mrs Tyrrell-Clark and Mrs Silcox for helping to clear and sort the overflowing lost property cupboards during Term 5.
Thank you also to Mrs Thompson for laying out the lost property on the last day of term.  Although we were able to reunite some items with their grateful owners, an amount was unclaimed and will be, therefore, donated to charity.
Please remember to name items – all named items will be returned to pupils in class.
Thank you!
Sevenoaks Primary School Heritage Project

In September, Sevenoaks Primary School  were profoundly grateful to receive funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to remember our old school and memories as a project titled, “We’re Proud of our Heritage!” Over the course of Terms 4 and 5, the children throughout our school have been contributing designs, ideas and memories, alongside two local companies, that will ultimately result in the art work adorning the school walls.

For the first project, the children worked alongside a local artist from the company Animate Arts, to design a map of our old and new school to go onto our ‘piggy wall’. Small groups of children initially met with the artist to draw the old building from memory, then filling the rooms with images and text of relevance to their time in school. The children repeated this process with the new building. The artist and Mrs Edwards (3A) took the children on an observation walk around the school to draw points of interest and significance to them and their experience of school. This was replicated as large maps, depicting the ground and 1st floor of our school.

The next step was the most exciting. The design was transferred onto the wall ready for the children to paint. The artist taught each group about mixing paints, shading, shadow and creating different tones using the paint on the wall. We discovered that it is much trickier painting on a wall than paper as the paint tends to run, but we soon got the hang of it! As you can see from the images, the children did a fantastic job and the new mural will be on display for years to come, commemorating our favourite things about our school.

Keep an eye out as we work on the final part of our project, a video, celebrating memories of the school produced by the children and the Outreach Programme at Sevenoaks School. Coming soon!

Miss Fearfield, the “We’re Proud of our Heritage” project lead, and SPS, are immensely grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund for providing us with the opportunity to celebrate our heritage and school in this manner. We would also like to thank Governor, Anita Brown, for applying for the funding; and GeoMedia and Animate Arts for collaborating with us on the project.
